Orchestra Lagrandt plays Tchaikovsky

Onder leiding van Ian Arthur Plansker keert Orchestra Lagrandt, een nieuw opgericht ensemble dat op historische instrumenten speelt, terug voor hun tweede concert in Amsterdam. Ze zullen Tsjaikovski’s Derde symfonie ‘Poolse’ uitvoeren, een nieuwe première van Plansker, en geselecteerde arrangementen van François-Auguste Gevaert, een van Tsjaikovski’s invloeden.

Tsjaikovski Symfonie nr. 3
Deze symfonie, vaak ‘de Poolse’ genoemd, neemt een unieke plaats in binnen het oeuvre van de componist. Ze worstelt niet met de klassieke structuur zoals zijn eerste twee symfonieën, maar weerspiegelt ook nog niet de volledige individualiteit van zijn latere symfonieën. In plaats daarvan schetst ze een beeld van de kunstenaar die tot bloei komt – het is een werk vol uitbundigheid en groeiend zelfvertrouwen. Gedurende de hele symfonie worden luisteraars getrakteerd op Tsjaikovski’s kenmerkende pathos, momenten van triomf en vroege hints van de orkestrale magie die later zijn balletten zou kenmerken.

Tchaikovsky’s Third Symphony holds a unique place in the composer’s output. It neither wrestles with the classical structure as his first two symphonies do, nor does it yet reflect the full individuality of his later symphonies. Instead, it paints a picture of the artist coming into his own—it’s a work of exuberance and growing confidence. Throughout the symphony, listeners are treated to Tchaikovsky’s signature pathos, moments of triumph, and early hints of the orchestral magic that would later define his ballets.
